I have taught at many Jamaican high schools over the years; the most prominent is the Wolmer's Boys' School (12 years) where on many occasions had exemplary passes in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics at the CSEC level. The experience at CCESTAR, formerly the Science Learning Centre, provided the opportunity for interaction with students from all over the island and has also given ability to garner experience in teaching and learning strategies. Philosophy of learning: Teaching and learning are interlocked and it is the interaction and activities performed within the frame which includes the teacher, learning experience, learning environment and the learner, which creates the development of neural pathways to strength the network and entrance learning. Learning experiences should create connections in the brain to trigger thinking and cross reference new and old ideas. If one is able to do that the one is a good facilitator of learning.

Sharna Grandison M.Sc.
Thursday 4:00PM to 6:00PM
Owed much to the chagrin of my mother I allowed my head to wrap around the idea of going to Teachers’ College at age seventeen (17). I soon found that the vocation, teaching, offered me among other things, a great opportunity for social and intellectual interaction, and inevitably, transformation. Having fourteen (14) years of classroom experience at the Ordinary and Advanced levels (with the latter involving students from different Caribbean countries) my spectrum has broadened and I comfortably admit “I have not only been able to effect positive changes in students but they have had a profound effect on my growth and development as a person and as an educator.” Now, my classrooms have evolved into sites where self actualization is a reciprocal process and fun and excitement while learning, is a natural part of this process.

Teacher: Anieta Bailey M.A.
My passion for teaching and learning about literature has led me to study it at the diploma, baccalaureate and post graduate levels. I believe that literature teaching and learning are essential to the development of critical thinking skills and thus, enjoy exposing my students to the different genres of literature. Though I have only been a part of the teaching profession for 7 years, I have capitalized on the opportunities to develop both myself and the students I come into contact with in a wholistic way.
My teaching style is eclectic, as I believe in the importance of making the Literature and Language classroom relatable and enjoyable to my students. At the same time, I employ a blend of giving students the information they need while extending to them the latitude to discover new concepts in a guided fashion. Classrooms that I manage are areas where learning can take place in such a fashion that my students are able to maximize and explore their varied learning styles.

I have always dreamed of being a teacher. I started out my formal education at Waldensia Primary School in Sherwood Content Trelawny Jamaica. In first grade, I decided that I wanted to teach first grade. My teacher was fun to be around and had an influence on me wanting to become a teacher. Throughout my primary school and high school years, I could not wait to go to college and begin my dream. By the time I was a student in high school my dream of becoming a teacher has become a reality one day when I was given the opportunity to be a teacher for a day. As soon as I graduated High School, I took the chance of applying to Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College where I was accepted. I was enrolled as an Education student and had specialized in Primary Education. After graduating from college with a Diploma in Primary Education, I got a job as a teacher at Mount Salem Primary and Junior High school, but with my continued pursuance, hard work and hope for a brighter future coupled with my mother's words of wisdom, I worked full time and studied at Northern Caribbean University part to pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Primary Education. There I made Honor Roll for two consecutive years and graduated with honors degree in Primary Education. It is my desire to mould young lives and help children build a solid educational foundation so that have a brighter future.

I live by the philosophy that “Children learn best by doing so therefore it is only natural as a teacher to provide conducive environments where children can actively participate in their own learning by doing. Students should be able to enjoy what they are doing as well as learn how to work cooperatively in groups that enables them to take risks as well as develop their sense of responsibility and maturity.”
Pestalozzi (1746-1827) saw the child as a being with enormous latent possibility and an innate desire to learn. Teachers should encourage the child’s natural curiosity and exploration.
